On Tuesday, Feb. 2, John Kuhl was officially sworn in as the seventh Hopkins School Board member, becoming the first board member to take the Oath of Office virtually.

Kuhl was one of several community members who applied to fulfill a vacancy left by Chris LaTondresse’s, who resigned from the board when he was voted in as Hennepin County Commissioner. After a careful selection process, which included weighted voting, Kuhl was chosen to join the Hopkins School Board.

Kuhl has an international background in business and a deep commitment to anti-racist, equity and inclusion work. His deep commitment to the District’s vision will support the Board as they work to align policy and budget decisions with the core tenets of Vision 2031 to ensure all Hopkins scholars thrive.

“Kuhl’s background makes him well positioned to step into school board leadership during this unique time in our district’s history,” said Board Chair Jen Bouchard. “As board members, we also serve as education’s key advocates on behalf of scholars and the community to advance the vision for our public schools.”

Kuhl will fulfill the remaining months of LaTondresse’s term, which was set to expire in January 2022.
